How much can you change a classic before it becomes a completely new product?

Buck announced a limited edition of the classic 110 Folding Hunter for 2021 with some substantial upgrades form the original:
- Blade steel: S45VN
- Cerakote coated thumb stud
- Aluminum handles with carbon fiber inlays
- Deep carry pocket clip
These changes will definitely improve the knife's functionality but in my opinion there are just too many alterations from the classic. It would be better to introduce this knife as an entirely new model but form a marketing perspective I can understand Buck's decision. An upgraded classic is probably more appealing to potential buyers than a random new knife in a sea of new offerings.
